Finally made it to a show this year. Only a couple of miles down the road but nice to have it on show somewhere. It also got a bit wet from an early afternoon downpour. First time it’s been out in the rain.
Mini Festival is next on the list

Show and Shine at Mini Festival



Drive down was fine but the drive back was a bit more anxious stuck in traffic for ages trying to get onto the M25 close to the forever busy Dartford tunnel. Water temps hit 113 just as the traffic began to crawl forward and mercifully get some airflow through the new front rad. Temperatures came down really quickly after just a couple of miles. An excuse to go faster to get more airflow

Starting some new jobs and old outstanding jobs in readiness for the show season.
First up I have some new door mirrors. The larger SPA ones but with convexed mirrors - as I should have done to begin with. I like the look of the smaller Formula mirrors but aside from decorative purposes they are s*** in all honesty. Having put a few miles on the car last year not having good visibility when harnessed into the seat was becoming a chore.
So the larger mirrors will bolt straight on as the spacing is the same they are just undergoing paint at the moment.

Headlining is next on the list. Mine is sagging so I have a plan to redo it slightly differently, a plan I’ve been putting off for some time.

Slight coolant leak needs addressing as does the issue with the fast idle unit not working as it should. The unit itself seems fine when tested so I’m suspecting a blocked hose or waterway going to it.

Last outing from last year to a popular local meet at North Weald Airfield



Using up some lacquer to finish the boot which was looking pretty flat. Not somewhere anyone will really see but I know it looks a lot better now



New mirrors painted up. All went straight forward really never had a problem from The Touch Up Paint Factory when getting colour matched stuff



Size comparison and the convexed mirror on the new ones gives such a better view from the wider angle. I’m looking forward to being able to see behind



If anyone is interested the small mirrors are no longer needed and can be up for sale

Think I’ve found the reason for my fast idle unit not working as this little take off up to it was blocked up. Not sure why I never went as far to check down here but anyway
Cleaned it all through and rubbed down for a quick repaint



Removed front rad to find the leak which was due to a small nick in the top hose so just needs trimming back. Drained everything out and no nasty surprises the coolant looked ok.
Just needs putting back together more

A nice day out down at Brooklands albeit on my own this year. Mini performed faultlessly and the new mirrors were a welcome addition. I finally have some good all round visibility when driving.
