DK - if you have a hopelessly weak needle and a lathe - there's no harm in thinning it down a bit and trying it out!

Thanks Roy, very true. However, the Spit is in such un-roadworthy condition that my time and efforts need to be spent elsewhere. Buying a needle is just easier and quicker.
