hi there ive recently been having problems with the running of my 1.3i mini its a N reg model. The problem seems to be when the car is running is i put any load on the engine it starts to cough a splutter anyway i have had it into a ini speacilist and he has located the problem and says that the car is overfueling because the tempture of the of the engine is running at 30 degrees when it should be reading round about 70 75 if i not mistaken so basically its like the car is running with the choke on constantly . He has checked everything the earth tried new ecus tried new sensors and still no luck is there anything else it could be because im running out of ideas fast.

if anyone could help i would be very greatful

thanks

steven

PS something ive just rememberd not sure if would have anything to do with this problem but may be relevent not so long ago my radiator blew but before that the guage that reads the temp was not working after replaceing the radiator the guage still isnt working could this link in with the running of the car?

Are you getting any heat out of the heater?

Possible options

Thermostat upside down

Thermostat in the wrong place(sitting in the head, rather than where it should be, sitting in the sandwich plate)

Fouled up coolant passages in the sandwich plate an inlet manifold, usualy as a result of lack of antifreeze/ inhibitor

Coolant temp sensor in the bottom of the inlet manifold faulty.

Check the vacuum line that runs from the inlet manifold into a little black box on the side od the throttle body (charcoal canister) and from here into the ECU. If it is intact and the connections are good dissconnect the ECU pipe from charcoal canister and connect it directly to the manifold.
Alternatively, if you can use the rover diagnostic tool, it gives a live readout of manifold vacuum. This line is what tells the ECU the load of the engine so is possibly your problem. I've had a problem with this before.

I think the ECU uses the coolant temperature as one of its "inputs" to control the fuelling to the engine.
You could argue that if the engine coolant sensor is not working (and that's why your gauge is not working) the ECU believes the enigne is cold and increases the fuelling accordingly.
You could try a replacement sensor and see if that helps. It just seems too much of a coincidence that the temp gauge is not working and that the engine appears to be over-fuelling!

Steve.

different sensors have been changed the person that is fiing the cars does these jobs all the time and hes told me that if the sensors unplugged and the cars heated up it will run fine however he took a open flame to the sensor and the sensor will not go above 60 is there a break in the system somewhere? hes tried new ecus sensors etc
