what kind of performance would i get with a mini fitted with the MG Metro Turbo.gear then?

if i bought a mini for about £500 and a MG metro turbo for about the same price popped all the metro gear on to the mini would this be an easy job for a novice? is it litterally a case of swapping gear? i wont need to fabricate any gear myself will i? if i did this i would have 2k left for interior and paint job.

I suppose if i could get a 7 second mini it would feel very quick

The MG Metro 1300 engine pops in you have to buy a couple of bolt on extra mounts very easy to fit to get the turbo on may need a bit of bulk head work the others can advise you on that bit i used a big carb intead and manifold with K&N filter did another one with twin SUs a bit more BHP with the expected 0 to 60 about 8 secs. You can look up the Metro Turbo Spec. up on a fast search it will not be much dif. in the Mini a couple secs less at a guess if you run on 10inch by 6inch wheels with 165s. It always looks great when you open the hood with a classic lump in. you will need a LSB exhaust system to.

Good news, my mate just informed me that he has a mate who is really in to minis, apparently he even made a stretch mini once.

I am going to go and pay him a visit to see what can be done within my budget. Lets say i could get a mini with decent body work, how big would you guys think a budget would have to be to pop a bike engine in and sort out the running gear brakes etc?

Well i have 2 projects on at the moment first is a 2004 Elise 111s, it needs a front crash structure and front and rear clams replacing. also needs a respray and a bit of work done on the doors and sills. getting the car for 6k i will spend 4k on it then try and offload it for 14-15k. I am doing that with a friend so will only make 2k each. i currently have 3k for the mini so i could potentially have 5k for it.

If needs be i can get up to 9k. the thing is i am still not 100% settled on a mini. i just want something that is fun to drive has power, must have power. and i would like to be able to use it in the wet, that rules out most kit cars.

I would also like to be able to sell it on and not loose to much if it doesnt scratch the itch!

I am meeting this mate probably next week now so will find out what goes down. if he is positive i may even ditch the lotus elise rebuild and move straight on to the mini idea.

Just a further note, what about a v6 or a v8 mini? i used to have a golf VR6 that was a great engine and you can get them for cheap!

Thanks for the chat my old age car is a 911 turbo you to could get one for about 12g up i would go for any mint classic model find them on the web a nice classic can come up for a lot less my next hot buy an old targa model about 3ltr.We had a secound hand turbo for 36g in the past a bargain new they said it was over 60g old man still got big dents in flaired rear arches had to sell it for him they come under classic group 20 insurance you must also have another run about with them on the road for value insurance costs on my 928s on the drive they would only cover 6g that was ok sold it quick as i bought it did not want the next fix bill and no mates to fix that model insurance for an old man was about 300 notes on it full classic cover. I do not think you want a MINI at all sport?
