Not dead impressed with the RR service though I must admit.

I think someone mentioned it at the start, but does anyone else have experience of this rolling road?

I've had in back in at my local mini garage.

When my RR was tuned they put the vacuum advance back on. Previously I'd had this taken off my another tuner. Anyway, the guys at my local place removed it and revs dropped, and they said this wasn't right as there should be no vac at idle and so it shouldn't be doing anything? They also mentioned that this might be a sign of how far my timing is advanced? They put it back on, and then adjusted my tick over, as it was idling about 1400rpm when I got it back from nobles... but I just wondered if anyone could make any sense of this?

I'm still pretty sure I'm missing power that I "should" have, and I don't really see the point in spending more money to come by more acceleration when for some reason I'm down on what should be there anyway. I'd expect atleast another 10bhp at the flywheel really.

If you could get it there, the place to go is Peter Baldwins near Royston, Herts. He is probably the best Mini RR expert in the country. He certainly has always made mine go along a bit. A really nice guy as well and a champion Mini race driver.

good advice ;) i think the problem here is the RR set up too. i know you have already spent out on the RR session but it is definately wise to get a proper renowned tuner to do the tuning for you. there are far more avenues to venture down other than needle choice and mixture settings.

Hi Neil,
Its matt (Previous owner)
Sorry havn't emailed you back yet, i just stumbled across this.

Right e o then!

Brief history.

I bought the base engine for this off ebay, a 1330 with no clue on the condition but had a few "trick bits" on it.

I fully stripped the engine and passed everything to jonspeed racing for inspection (regreted doing this but thats another story)
I was told it was pretty worn so paid to have the block offset bored to 1380, bought a new set of there own pistons, had the crank reground, had the head skimmed and opened up to give the correct amount of cc's (this should be in the folder with all the reciepts)
then went to min-its and purchased everything else, reground 286 cam, ultralight flywheel, new bearings, cam followers, ect ect ect and John (guesworks) reconditioned the box for me.
The engine had a set of vernier timing gears, and the cam was timed in using the DTI method.
I cant remember the exact spec, but its what was on the for sale ad!
The cylinder head is nicely opened up, with rimflow valves ect, Neil,Have you still got the cd with all the photo's on that you could post up to show people what its like? Im not sure what it is but the guy i bought it off said it was a "stage 4 spec" which i agreed with and so did jonspeed when they opened the ports up for me.

I cant remember how much detail i went into about it when you came to pick her up, but i know i said if i could have kept her i was going to get a new exhaust manifold because it is only a cooper freeflow off the 998 engine that is mated to a 1 3/4 inch rc40 millenium system (maybe the whole system is a little restrictive and the back pressure is quite high on it, as a friend of mine always commented when i parked it on his drive it always used to open his cat flap on his front door!

I was also going to strap on a pair of 1.5 inch carb's because im not sure what inlet manifold i ended up using and partly for the "enhanced noise"!

The Distributor is a metro electronic igniton type (unknown advance curve)

I know as you said you've had some trouble with her and im not completly sure why because everything was checked and double checked, and tolerences were all fine, i even got a aircraft engineer friend to "borrow" a calibrated torque wrench from work to double check it all.

Have you thought about taking her to a "mini friendly" garage as from past experiances "normal garages" dont want to know about modified cars and ajust there prices accordingly!

Ah im goin to bed now, Night all!!!
I will post more up tomorrow when im awake and got a bit more time!

Just want to clarify Neil, I sold you the car in good faith and am pretty pee'd off to hear that its let you down. but as im sure you know, modified mini's need a lot of attention! I really wish i had'nt sold her, even with the issues you have had sounds like you have still had some fun in her from what you said in your email!
