check the rca cables............ should have 2 sets. make sure you are not on the sub output from the head unit

There are only 2 RCA outputs on the back of the HU, 1 red and 1 white. I have put RCA doublers in at the amp end so that all the inputs to the amp are filled

ahhhh, so its running from a single output
problem lies with the crossover settings somewhere then
just take your time and check and double check then if you can, get a photo of it

I just had a good look through the HU manual and something dawned on me. Is it possible that the Pre outs for the RCAs on the back of the HU are just for the sub output and not high end?
Then I thought of a way to sort this out but wanted peoples opinions: Could I use the original outputs from the HU to the original speakers in the back (they were 6" 3-ways) and put them into the HI-LEVEL inputs on the amp and continue to use the pre out RCAs to power the sub through the amp?
Sorry if that doesn't make much sense

give it a try
would rule out speaker problems

The speakers arnt the problem, I connected the 6.5" ones to the original outputs from the HU and they worked fine. Would it just be easier to buy a new HU with more pre outs!? lol This is so frustrating

Bit of a noob question again but what are active crossovers?

electronically seperate frequencies so sub mid and high only recieve them
head unit==active crossover==sub input amplifier==subwoofer
== mid input amplifier==midrange
== high input amplifier==tweeters
each channel of the amp has a dedicated frequency basically

means more amps needed, more expence but the sub part is usefull
me i prefer making my own passive crossovers, more fun sat with a pile of capacitors and coils working out what combination is best

I have done a BTEC national course in electric and electronic engineering and i wouldn't have a clue where to start building a crossover useful course

Right, I tried my idea of putting the hi-level inputs in from the HU as well and it worked an absolute treat!! Almost blew my head off as the volume was up loud from where i took the old knackered speakers out. So now apart from being partially deaf im very happy
Thanks for all the help everyone, much appreciated!!
