Hi all. Just spent 2 hours with a jigsaw, hacksaw and stanley knife cutting and shaping a Mk2 Golf GTi grille for my Clubby estate (which is in the rebuild stage). I've seen them with the headlights part cut out but I wanted to be "different". As you can see. I left the headlight surrounds in AND the Golf spots. Now all I need to do is rejoin it in the centre, fill it, sand it, prime it and paint it (red, the car is going to be blue). Opinions please??

Looks very good, would be nice to see what it looks like with a bumper in place too. Although I dont think I like the sound of a red grille.

I think the black with the red pin stripe would look great with red, and its nice and subtle, but those who know their minis or golfs will know whats going on! As it is, it looks really cool!

Thanks for the comments guys. As I said, I'm spraying the car Electric Blue and adding a light blue metal holgraphic flake into the lacquer. I'm also doing an MDF headlining with a Union Jack painted on it. I've already made Union Jack door cards and I've got a Union Jack gear stick gaiter......can you see where I'm going here???lol. So, blue car, white roof, red wheels and grille with red seal trims too. Not everyones cup of tea I know but personal taste varies.
Cheers.....Dave

I like this mod a lot. There was a bright green one in one of the mags that had this done about 10 years ago. From memory it had big wheels and the curvy w/p style sommerford arches.
