IF THE SELLER SAYS THEY WILL ONLY EXCEPT PAYMENT AS A GIFT THEN WALK AWAY THEY ARE NOT WORTH DEALING WITH!

hang on a minute - I HAVE to take payments as a GIFT otherwise I would loose an astounding amount of money in fees - I dont like being tarred with this brush - your comments are ill-put.

its only between 1.4% and 3.4% + .20p

If you were offering credit card facilities etc the fees are quite a bit higher.

Cheques require a visit to the bank for deposit.

Besides cash, paypal is really the cheapest way to go.

May be worth considering that sales may icrease by allowing payment by paypal other than a gift through giving customers who have never met you better piece of mind. Just looking at the replies so far in this thread suggest people are more happy to hand over money whens its protected.

i aslo think this statment is out of order as well

IF THE SELLER SAYS THEY WILL ONLY EXCEPT PAYMENT AS A GIFT THEN WALK AWAY THEY ARE NOT WORTH DEALING WITH!

i dont like using payapl is a rip off just lining ebays pocket even more , i preffer cheques or postal orders whih means the buyer gets my address where to send it and also my contact details , so know where i live etc

if they insist on pay pal then they either send as a gift or pay the extra why should i pay the 3.26 on £90 !

Make the sale price of the item £93.26, and state that if paying by means other than paypal then a reduced price will follow.

Advertising the fact you will whack up the cost if a buyer wants to use paypal makes the seller look cheap.

think you missed the piont was making asking them to send a s a gift to save the fees does not make me out to be untrust worthy with is what the other person who posted the quote is impling

and i am not talking as a trader if i put something in the classifieds and want a fixed priced i should not have to go work out what the paypal fee will be and ad it just incase someone wants to insist on using it

how do people think the world worked before paypal etc

Hiya,

Kel is restoring my mini at the moment, and yeah he is a bit rubbish at replying to texts/calls etc, but I think he has just taken a lot on and is getting hassled by people (including me!) to get things finished etc. I think he is trying to please everyone, taking too much on and struggling to keep up with the workload, I think he is in his workshop all hours at the moment.

Kel is a really nice bloke, I don't think for a moment he would have scammed you. I think he just has a lot on. Not the greatest communicator, but a great mini mechanic and a really nice bloke.

Got to agree with FunkyDuck and kind of want to stand up for Kel as he doesn't seem to be on here much nowadays. He does have a hell of a lot on and I believe he's taken on a bit more than he can handle as well. Plus Kel is a really nice, honest bloke though, that has done good work on my mini a few times. He can be a little bit hard to get a hold of, but persist with ringing and he does get back to you!

Scamming people really doesn't seem like the Kel I know, I hope your item does arrive soon and this all gets sorted :xxx:

I totally disagree with the charges paypal lands on the seller. I usually ask the buyer to make payment as a gift & I certainly do not rip anyone off!

i dont know if anyone else has noticed but when sending money as a gift the payer has to pay the charges. they dont just go away. therefore, if you see how much the charges are, then pay with a normal transaction, adding on whatever the charge is. you dont loose any money, the seller doesnt have to pay the charges. AND your covered by paypal if they do a runner.

simple really guys, come on. dont pay via a gift, just offer to pay the charges.

I'm going to stick up for Kel too now - he's also got my Mini in for a load of work at the moment and he does seem to have absolutely tons on right now... He is sometimes a bit hopeless at returning your calls (which is often a concern when he holds your car and your car keys!!) but the times I've been there he seems a nice guy and certainly genuine enough. Like TheFunkyDuck and others have said, he's trying to please too many people and taking on too much - he is just a one man band, and I know from seeing his previous work he'd rather take his time and do something properly than cut corners and get things flying out of the door. I know I was guilty of pressuring him to start on my car sooner rather than later although I'm pretty much resigned to the fact I'm not going to see my car this side of Christmas.

I hope everything works out for everyone... I think I stand to lose a bit more than the others if this goes pear shaped

Interesting, I would like to see what happens when the tax office come round to visit ? As all transactions on eBay are now being monitored by the Customs and Excise tax office.
