If you buy a car with a NI MOT you can be sure it has withstood the rigours of being to hell and back.

Sounds like exactly the same test to me.

I failed because my rear seat cusion would fall forwards if you pulled it hard enough.

my back seat is fully eh adjustable!!! (by adjustable i mean it aint tied in at all!!!)

Haha, my back seat wasn't attached either  never a problem!

The other half's car recently failed it's MOT for a number of reasons, one being that some random component had "a slight misting of oil" ... THE WHOLE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS COVERED IN OIL! :)

We had an old works van fail once due to an airfreshner hanging from the rear view mirror. Some rubbish about it obstructing the field of vision. What I dont get was that it was a free re-test, so I went in took it off and they passed it - what a waste of paper.

my last mini failed for sunglasses hanging on the rear view mirror! Numpty could just have taken them off but obviously LOVED paperwork.

Some of these are legit fails as far as I'm aware.

Number plates have to be secure and legible so a cracked one could fall apart and fall off or moisture could get in and cloud it. A requirement for secure seats is why our front ones got catches in '76. I'm not sure if the same applies to rear seats but your Min should pass if the seats are as secure as they were when they left the factory. I guess testers have a similar attitude to things dangling off interior mirrors: if the owner can't be bothered to do something simple to prep the car to a testable standard, why should they be bothered either?

If I find a tester that lacks common sense I use mine to find another tester.

Actually 'numpty' couldn't take them off. Testers are prevented from removing anything from your vehicle in order to perfrom the test. It is very fussy of him to do that but it follows the letter of the law. As do all of these seemingly silly failures. I have had a similar problem with the security of the front seats. The test was being performed by a very young guy at the test center who seemed determined to yank the seat right out of the car in his efforts to test it for security. He was trying to fail it, until an older tester looked over his shoulder and said something like 'remember the owner is watching you, this is what Minis are like, it's a pass'.

One of the things mine has failed on was a non-working horn.....the donut was pressing the middle of the steering wheel not the end of the stalk.

Its the same test but with stricter rules if you ask me. 1st thers no such thing as a restest, you have to pay £20 for one. Thers no such thing as an advisory, you either pass or fail, even if it is "slight play in nearside front balljiont" the things that we fail on that english test centers would let go as an advisory is rediculous, ther are good points to this tho, you can be sure your car is fully present and correct, and that there has been no "mates" doing you a favour!
