40mm Weber

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into whether a 40mm Weber of a 1100cc Race Car from Japan would work on a fairly modified 1098cc that will driven pretty much every day? The 1098 has had a 80 thou bore a worked head a RE13 cam (from Australia) flat top piston and yeh a few other bits and pieces.
Thanks Blake

My view - you would do better to use an HIF44 on an MG Metro inlet. Far easier to set up - and will use less fuel -but if determined to use the 40 weber, fit the largest chokes you can get in there.
I would have to say the Weber is easier to set up as once they are set up that is it they are done, an SU will need tweeking and drifts in and out of tune. Yes the SU probably will give you a bit MPG but not by a whole lot. For choke size check the Vizard bible for a rough idea and talk to some weber specialists.
To fit the weber - you will need to weld in a 'weber box'.
And - wear ear protectors!
Once again you do not HAVE to fit a weber box, depends on the manifold and air filter length that you use.
ear protectors? then you will miss out on the great sound of the weber!

Those are sold as part of a tuning kit, consisting of a 40 Weber, LCB & alloy manifold (short, 2.5" IIRC), air hose and K&N filter. It is recomended to raise the compresion by skimming the head in the instructions. Apparently those kits are good for ~50HP.

Once again I have to disagree.
My old 1275 didn't have a weber box and returned good mpg, and to be honest isn't that noisy unless you have lead boots!! Although with my 1330 i have fitted the box and the only problem was having to re-locate my HU which used to be in my dash.
May i ask bmc if you have driven a mini running a weber?? As if you had the noise alone would convert you to wanting one!!
Go for the weber, good solid reliable carb once set up

What about an airbox with a hose leading to a cone filter?

Another angle to look at it is using one choke from a weber 45. There is less silly furling due to there only being one pump jet in action and it would perform well enough for your engine. All of the old 100bhp miglia 1000cc engines used one!
