Hello all,

I've literally just bought a 1960s 35mm camera. Everyone who knows me knows that i like all things retro, and i've been looking for weeks for a decent camera - the perfect one popped up last night.

And all for £22 posted, its mint :).

Also, i got hold of two external flash guns, and those where stupidly cheap - at £6 posted.

And one that fans out like this.

All in all, i think i've done well.

Anyone else into this sort of thing?

The flash guns won't be that cheap once you start buying bulbs for them! They look like they'll take a Philips Photoflux bulb, make sure you get the right colour for the film you are using. Strobe flashes are later obviously but you'll save yourself a lot of cash and trouble and burned fingers by using one, and you don't have to keep reloading them! Some things are best left in the past and magnesium flashes are on the list IMHO.

Nice little camera though, film is so much better than digital.

Oh, and to add - I've recently got a medium format Bronica!! :) ;)

Oh, and Jack - It depends what you want it for, really - but it's VERY hard to replicate the quality that film gives you.

I suppose to understand film, you need to be interested in the root of photography - film, to me, seems like such an organic way of photographing - it's mechanical... you press a button and lots of things move around inside - sometimes with a really satisfying "clunk", lol :proud:

I do not use to stuff quite a vintage as you Down&Out but I use 70 & 80's manual focus lenses made by Vivtar, Olympus and Nikon on my DSLR.

Hello Mr Down&Out, couldn't agree with you more, retro is the way forward... in a fairly backwards kind of way...
anyhow!

I've been looking to get into this sort of thing for a while, and having an old mini, i'd like to be able to take pictures at shows, get them developed and have old photos that people could point at and say, wow, is that from 1965? Nope, took it yesterday!

My Grandad has an old Box brownie in working order at his, but the problem there is trying to get film for it - can't find anything that's suitable :)

Anyone got any clues as to what would be best?

And Down&Out, thanks again, i'll have a look for something like that on Ebay - want the inside of my car to be like a timewarp, so nothing too modern if I can help it.

I'm slowly receding back in time. I love it really, pleases me so much more than any modern stuff. Its only people like you that know what i mean.

You speak large amounts of sense ;)

I know that retro 10's has a really really old camera, and he's fixing that up at the moment.

Anything is possible :)

There were variations in different years, wasn't there? I thought there were some models that took 127?

Oh well - Good that it's 120! :)

If you want to get them processed, there's a place in Birmingham that do it:

http://www.metrocolourlab.com/

This is where I got the MF scans done for the TMF calendar ;)
