Im looking for a cable that connects my laptop, (Samsung nc10) to let me watch films from my laptop on my new hd lcd tv, ive found something called an "s-video" cable but it doesnt look like my laptop has a port that this will fit!

Can anybody suggest anything that will work?

Most modern tellies will have a 15pin ESA connector on the back, that's the simplest, all really depends on what your laptop has on it's side...

If it has an HDMI slot then you can connect up using that..

Looks like the laptop has got a VGA port on it (the 15 pin thing near the power button). You could get a VGA to composite cable or similar, but it won't be outputting in HD, that's for sure.

Your computer has a vga port which is used for an external monitor!

It will depend on your tv having the same connector. on the computer its a blue and has 15 pin s

s-video wont do as you dont have that output connector.

Does teh TV also have the vga? i know most samsung tvs do.

Is this not just the monitor connection, i.e. there will be no sound from the tv speakers?

From the other comments will this work then? the tv is samsung

then plug a stereo jack into the headphone socket which has two RCA connectors on the other end which you plug into the telllie...

However, doesn't the HDMI cable carry sound aswell ????

LOl oh yeah sound! even the cable you posted from ebay, is only for the picture and not sound! for sound your gonna need some sort of jack from the headphone socket on the comp to the input on the tv. for example http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item518f0783c9

what tv is it and i can tell you what you can and cant do?

Is there not one cable that will do both sound and picture? If not i can get monitor to monitor cable and sound jack from tesco's for a fiver each, just prefered the idea of one cable to keep things tidy!

Your laptop has an HDMI socket, if you've recently purchased an LCD TV then that will too have an HDMI socket...

HDMI carries both digital video and digital audio..

therefore plug your laptop into your television with an HDMI cable, yes buy it for pennies from tesco's and don't be fooled by, Hi-grade expensive HDMI cables, it's hog wash... a digital signal does not degrade based on the oxygen content of the cooper ( or gold ) used in the wire...

Even laptops with DVI outputs don't tend to put sound out via the same connector. Which is annoying as DVI (like HDMI) can also carry sound.
So you generally end up with two cables.. :)
