Nice one Beanybaby!

Knew you'd find a goodun.

Cellar = Dungeon. You know it makes sense. End of.

Get yerselves moved in and settled before you seriously plan any major jobs. Need to explore your new habitat first. You'll only change your mind anyway!!

have fun! Hope it doesn't smell too funny.....

Aw, thanks Juju!! :D

Don't know about the dungeon! It's going to have to be spotless, for me to go in there! :D And spider-free! :D

We're going to live in it and do it up, so we won't do anything too drastic in one go - but there's certain jobs in there that reaaaally need sorting!

Good on you Bean. Prefer the older house myself also, more character etc.

Slowly going round mine sorting decor plaster floors etc etc and trying to keep any original features. Also trying to find an original front door but no luck so far.

On the celler, without a lot of damp proofing works (money) I think it wil be too damp for a darkroom, from the pictures it looks like the walls are damp or at least have been in the past, discoloured paint etc, sorry

Aw, thanks Udo!! :)

Would love to see photos of yours and progress made! As yours probably is, this is to be a long term project, but it's going to be so rewarding to bring back all of the features that the house deserves.

When we first saw the house, we knew that it had been such a well loved house - there was just something about the feel of it and the care taken in it (ie, woodwork, doors etc) - We just thought it needed someone to move in to it who would turn it in to a family home - And not just a developer who would make money on it and get rid.

As far as the cellar goes - We're hoping to do some damp proofing work in the cellar - to turn it into a useable space! We will have to check it out properly though, once we're in.

The house hasn't been lived in for nearly 2 years, though - But the cellar hasn't been used, or even entered, for over 20 years. The little old lady that owned the house didn't ever go in their on her own. Once we've heated the whole house through again, we hope it'll sort out a couple of the issues we have - It's a very cold house at the moment, lol.

We went 'round again today - Made, er, some progress, lol. Once I can work out how to get the photos off the phone, I'll post them! :)

Well, I've not done too well getting these photos together - I've just moved to a different laptop and haven't got photoshop on it yet - so apologies for the photos. Also, apologies for the black and white photos! They came out really yellow on the freebie software that I have, so I did away with the colour - they looked awful!

Anyway, we made some progress!! :(

Having decided not to tackle too much at once and maybe do one room at a time...

We proceeded to take all of the carpets up and wallpaper off, lol

This is the kitchen, looking in to the dining room:

This is the lounge - nice wooden floors!! :)

This is the heart that I put on the mantlepiece in the lounge! :)

This is the hall - looking down into the entrance hall and up onto the landing:

Posted Image

This is the bathroom - It previously had carpet it in - I didn't fancy that at all!!:

Posted Image

And this is a picture of some of the damp that we found!

Posted Image

The damp is only on that section of wall - the rest of the plaster is solid. The brick beneath is dry, weirdly - its just the plaster that is in bad condition - It's the original plaster (much like in all of the rest of the house!). There's a window right next to the damp, so we suspect it's been a problem from there.

The rest of the original plaster is in fantastic condition - It's really quite unbelievable! Beneath the wallpaper, we found a few places where the original picture rails had been removed! - So they'll be going back up again! Heh!

So, we've decided that the kitchen is too small as it is - but there's a utility room and loo downstairs - so we're going to get rid of those two and knock through, to make a decent size kitchen for us. We both love to cook, so a decent kitchen is an essential!!

Today - we went kitchen shopping!! >_< :)

Still to make our minds up, yet - But watch this space! If we do go for it, we'll have to prepare the space.... Which means steelwork, plastering and re-wiring! :)

Get that cellar made into a bar lol

On a more serious note it is a really nice house!

Heh! Would be a hell of a talking point! :) But thank you! :)

Awesome work Bean!! >_<

Home sweet home

A Subway 1/2 mile away.... I'd be getting a fairly un-healthy diet if I lived there.

Enjoy Bean
