I think my mini is/was a German export...
What were the differences between the UK models and the German export ones? what might I need to know about it that might be different to the UK ones?
Thanks
Jason

are german minis made in the uk thus making them uk minis
Yes. Some german market models wee belgian license builds.
Identfied by the 'B' on the end of the chassis n°. But that's no indicator for 'german'!
I'd look for signs of a previous LHD use (clutch & brake master cyl. mounting marks p.e.).
Or wear signs on the carpet etc.
And I've seen the riveted ID tag in the engine bay in german language too.
My '76 had a german tag, my '84 has a english one, though.

Well (clever boy

But its not now....
I was just wondering if there was any things that the German mini market had that we didn't (or vise versa) i.e. I thought I read somewhere that the German cars had 13's as standard?
Cheers

its a 96 spi, the only things i can think of is the different type of sportspack arches! and a warning sticker on the fuel tank in german, but thats a bit obvious!
mine is a ltd edition for the german market, which alot tended to be.
what year and model is it?

Well Ive worked out thats its also a 96 (despite the seller saying it was a 95)
it's got a 1275 in her...
However - I don't actually know if the engine is the right one for the car - someone told me that I had an Austin engine in... (again I am not sure of this)
here are some pictures if it helps?

(since these pictures I have had the roof sprayed black, back to standard bonnet, standard exhaust, walnut dash, coloured lenses on rear - didn't like the clear ones) (also had it waxoiled underneath - but that don't change the look of it...)

I am not at home at the moment (away in florida) so will check these out when I get back...
I couldn't find the ID tag on the engine last time I looked....

The only way that i could tell my open classic came from germany was from the service book i.e. the german rover dealership and german service stamps.
Everything on the car looks just like it should on a uk mini.
I have some German books in my papers - I know it spent its early life in Germany... but thats about it...
The previous owner said he "didn't know much about it" he also didn't disclose how long he'd had it... always got the answer "not very long, but its been parked up for a year in my garage"
I don't even know if it was his car or whether he was selling it on behalf of someone else...
The name in the papers were in his "wifes name"... again I have to take his word for this...
Im not saying that I don't believe what he said... but some things just didn't add up so I thought I would do some research myself...

If you look at the original posters pictures of his arches, they extend down to the bumper and have a part resessed (D shaped)in them which the bumper sits in. the german ones also known as bullet arches dont extend down to the bumper level!
no idea why this is!

Ah! I see what you mean... Ok - that's the arches that were fitted to the Silverbullet, Silverstone and Mini 35 limited editions

Cheers,
Jan
PS: is this your Silverbullet? Very nice! I always had a soft spot for them... The interior is just lovely!
