My old man has fitted 3 gauges to his SPI, oil pressure, voltmeter and water temperature (to give us a more accurate reading than the standard one). The first two were a piece of cake to fit but since the SPI heads don’t have the water sender drilling and the ECU is dependent on the sender on the manifold I need to find somewhere else to fit the CTS. I don’t really want to start drilling the head, although we won’t rule it out if we really have to. They do sell 5/8UNF male to 1/8NTP female adapters.
One solution we have thought up is to tap the sandwich plate much like the MPI plate and screw it in there. We can’t use the MPI plate itself because from memory the radiator bracket bolts onto the sandwich plate. The sender is only 1/8NTP, this doesn’t sound very big but I have no idea about NTP threads. Will it foul the thermostat is my big question? Unfortunately, I don’t know the length. Can anyone else see a flaw in my plan?
Dave.
