Awsum! cant beat the mini forum for advice! I think my final spec will be the swiftune sw5 07 cam, rebuilt box with 4 pin diff and 3.4 final drive, staright cut drops, and the ported head with inlet manifold :D

by the way what is the difference between mini spares x pin diff and mini sports 4 pin diff? Is one better than the other, the motor will not be under heavy stress for long periods so i am just looking for a cheap 'ish' heavy diff

I'm aware what companies recommend, but it doesn't mean it' right. The MPi does not rev high enough to require double valve springs.

I asked about the difference in these diff's when i was doing mine. I went with the minisport one based on a recommendation from a company that builds and races engines and gear boxes for road and competition.

I ended up going for the minisport one on the advice from a friend, also went with the SW5 cam and lightened timing gear, so everything is with the builder so hopefully in a few weeks itl be back

I had my mpi engine rebuilt in the summer of 2009 and I fit it fitted with a SW5i cam

I ran it with the standard head and 1.5.1 rockers and it was a good car.

Only thing I will say it be very careful when running the 1.5.1 rockers on a standard head. I would defo recomend double valve springs.

I managed to mangle 3 valves as the rockers were putting extra load on the springs

I now have a stage 3 head which rules but brings new issues

On my fresh built Mpi engine running the following

48mm Throttle Body with k&n
sw5i cam
1.5.1 rockers
rc40 on standard manifold and downpipe

I managed to pass the MOT with no issues. Ok I did have one issue and that was because the cat I had was fecked, but after fitting an original MPi Rover cat... all was fine.

Yeah Datsun, i chose the sw5 as its still a mild cam and it seems to be fine on emmissions, i done a bit of research on TMF and all reports are good on the SW5, Mike mine will be a very similar spec to yours apart from an LCB and a decat, dont think that should make much of a difference as i put it through the MOT last year with no cat and it was fine on emmissions. Mike you said you had issues with the satge 3 head what were they as this will be my next step

I used the sw5 in my old 1380, excellent all round cam you won't be dissappointed as long as you don't expect a screamer. You won't need the cat for mot.

That's a similar spec to what I'm having built at mini speed. Sw51 cam, heat treated crank, ported head, recon box, 3.1 diff, cross pinned, 1.5 roller rockers, inlet manifold, Lcb and new exhaust, usual bits and a rr session. Hoping for 85+bhp. Can't wait to get it on the road.
