Hello all,

Please enlighten me if you will. I'm considering an engine replacement from a 998cc auto to 1275cc manual. My insurance premium is around £240 per annum with stage one kit declared.
But if i went for this engine mod, how much would my premium go up by?
Has any one done anything similar and declared their engine mods?
Let me know.

Thanks

quite a few insurance companies will also want it fitted by a trained mechanic so no DIY job.
as the insurance company want a mechanics report and some other stuff i think

just a point to make.

I did just this, and got around the "modded" status by registering the engine swap with DVLA - the car is now classed as a 1275.

but insurance on 1275 is much higher than 850/998.

When I enquired about mine I just said I was going to be fitting a bigger engine, same type of engine just bigger. They just told me its £40 something more, but as already said different insurers have different terms and conditions and without phoneing you wont know.

As long as you get your point across that its exactly the same type of engine just bigger they should be fine with it, your preimums will go up though obviously. But some insurers dont mind, some do.

I see.

thanks every one with useful answers, you know who you are.
I did call my insurer today. They were useless as they didn't phone back whn they said thy would.
So i called them after 2 hours, at which point they said no such engine as 1725cc exists(!)
imbeciles...
i pointd out to them it's a 1275..and then they never got back to me...
will call them first thing tomorrow.

I'm with Footman James, i was 20 at the time i think and went from a 998 to a 1275, it cost me £60 extra for the remaining 7 months on that policy! The car itself is rather modified but i dont see that reflecting on the engine change!
