Now, as a rule I ALWAYS search for a thread to read, rather then start a 731th thread with the same title.

However, I noticed most questions about insurance tend to be asked by "younguns" under 20 years old.

Now being closer to 40 then 30, I'm officially and ol' git, so I'm expecting to pay peanuts for my mini insurance. I bought it last year, and this is my first renewal quote for it.

My best, so far is about £120 for a 998cc Auto, 1990, 4000 miles per year. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get it under a 1er if I insure it as a classic.

So, my question: Can any "more mature" (OK then, "old"!) drivers recommend an insurance company that probably won't be on all the comparison sites.

Cheers in advance.

(Oh, and have you joined my Save Donington Park thingie yet? savedonington.co.uk) :xxx:

Haggerty Insurance done my ERA with agreed valuation of £8000 fully comp 4000 miles pa for £125 which I thought was pretty good for such a valuable high performance car, 34years old, garaged with 10yrs NCD mirrored

Check out Lancaster Insurance.

OK, if you're "old" then I am too !

In July I got my '89 Mini insured fully comp as a classic with an agreed value
of £5k and 6000 miles a year for - wait for it - Eighty eight quid !
It's garaged every night (which makes a big difference apparently) and unmodified.

Apparently it goes down 5% every year if I renew it but they don't do the "no claims bonus" bit on classics.

Highly recommended for price, I have no idea what they are like if you have to make a claim though.

One odd thing I noticed when shopping around was when I said "yes, I have access to another vehicle" - i.e. the
other half's company car, it shaved about 5% off the price with whoever was quoting.
Going to them (or anyone) direct is also cheaper then via the meercats or confused route.

Best wishes
Monty

Amen. They couldn't organise a pee-up in a brewery... well, it's not so much them as the clowns they call their various underwriters. :xxx:

In fact, I'm sure they could screw up drawing a straight line to the effect it'd end up a circle.

I was aged 38.

1991 Studio 2 998cc

Full no claims bonus from another insurance.

First time with this company.

And the cost?

£42 :xxx:

I was quoted £92, but due to being a first time customer, there was a 'cashback' deal which meant I got £50 off.

This was with the Post Office. Surprisingly good people to deal with (so far!)

Try RH Specialist insurance, as long as you have another car insured (anywhere) as your everyday driver you can get a classic policy on an old car. I think there might be some restrictions if they're not garaged or kept on your own drive though. Their prices also include breakdown cover, european cover (insurance and breakdown), agreed value and salvage retention. You can also get more than one car on a policy (I have three on one policy).

why? - they have been very good to date... I've found both good and bad reveiws, which is what I'd expect from any insurer..

Wait until you have an accident... they excel at being totally hopeless when trying to sort it out.
