This may sound really really silly but will my Mini pass it's mot if the seats have the exntesions on? I got them from Mini Sport not long ago and was just wondering if I needed to take them off before my Mini went for it;s mot? :)

I have tightended them up, but they come loose after time. Especially the passenger seat, but I think that's with having to tip it forward all the time to get in and out of the back.
My mums saxo failed it's mot because the front seats were not secure enough.
If my Mini has seat extensions in it and they are rocking backwards and farwards would you reccomend that I took them out for it's mot? I don't want it to fail on something stupid like this ...

Hope someone can help me! And .. I hope I don't sound too thick!!

Have you used 'nylock' nuts to stop them vibrating undone?

I have no idea!! Dad fitted them for me as I was busy. They came in the packet when I bought them from Mini Sport. My dad did mention something about getting some of those I think ...

I would like to keep them in for the room, but it's just the mot I am worried about.

To save hassle - take them off! I have to swap my driver seat for each MOT - they say the adjustable one is too 'insecure' - so I bolt in a fixed seat - and swap it back out afterwards.

Ahh rite! :)
I will take them out then, probably easier to do that! I would be annoyed if it failed on the seats!

Thank you :)

No point giving them excuses - once they see one thing - they pile it all on! Good luck with the MOT!

I never had any trouble with seat brackets on the MOT, as long as the mechanism still works which locks the seat down & allows it to be tilted forward by operating the release lever.

I wouldn't fail them either, so long as they're bolted in properly, obviously if they are seriously insecure it's a different matter.

I drilled another set of holes in mine, so i could secure the brackets to the original brackets (the ones that bolt to the crossmember) using two bolts instead of one.

I still have the bolts that came with the brackets and they're total crap. they're too small for the holes its worth getting some that fit alot better.

This is a nylock nut

The strip of blue in the end is the nylon which stops it from vibrating loose.

If you are still worried I would drill another hole in the brackets so you can fit 2 bolts through the origional seat mounting holes to stop them trying to twist. The seats should still then be able to tilt because there is only 1 bolt through the bottom of the seat and the bracket.

Hope this helps!!

i also drilled an extra hole and added new bolts with nylocs.Makes a massive difference. There is no reason for them to fail though as long as the seat locks down.
