Can anyone explain to me the processes involved and what sort of things a person involved with creating banded steal alloys.
could say my existing alloy wheels be extended? from say 12 x 5 to 12 x 7?

thanks
i anticipate your responses

from what i understand, they simply cut in half and weld in a new ring, and can be made to any width! but someone will be along with a more definitive answer shortly

ive done a bit of research in to this myself and it is possible but really recomened and its also bloody hard to do it.

banding a wheel (like previously stated) they cut it in half or 3 bits depending on what offset you wont and then weld it back together. now with steel wheels its easy as its just plane old steel, were as wiv alloys its a different story as an alloy is a mix of different metals to make them strong and light and these have to be cast, this is what makes welding them back together. but as i said its not impossible just bloody difficult there have been some done in the US

but what i will say is if you do get it done get it checked out to make sure its strong because the last thing you wont is to be driving down the motoraway and your wheel falls apart inside the tyre

bungle saves the day!
i will ask him about it.

so eventually an existing alloy wheel is modified?
anyone have some on there mini?

pictures please :D

edit: response to yeti.

i found a guy on ebay who is selling his services.
guy who sells his services
i think there is potential for cowboys then.
we will see. i really wanted some 10x6 wellers because the fit on my car with 1" spacers (i know i said the s word) but i cant seem to find any. so this maybe another option, but id need to find out the offset of wellers and the other measurement but i dont know what its called.

except what he does he turn an alloy into a split rim so bolting them together in either a 2 or 3 pieces instead of welding so not techincally banding them

or if it's a steel rim instead of banding the rim you can remove the centre and fit it in a wider and some times taller rim

clicky

as there is no banding the wheel is as strong as the original wheel, another pluss point of a rerimed wheel is you can often go up a size

this is a wheel off Dolly the camper originally a 5x14 now a 8x15

it still carries the original hub cap

fascinating stuff.

if only there was a way to shrink alloys. ha ha put them in a tumble dryer
i think my dream alloys would have to be tri spoked and have the ofset in the centre 10 x 6.

And believe it or not - aluminium wheels can be banded too (no, not split).
