Been driving my four wheeled rolling eyed guttersnipe since last July/August, occasionally to start off with (couple of mini events, picnics, comedy taxi service, trips with the mere aim of honking at countryside farm animals etc you get the idea), and then it became the main car (albeit temporarily) on the work commute, while I seek and (will eventually) acquire another main car to give the mini a bit of rest and a tidy up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving this daily use, but the miles I am clocking up imply I'm enjoying it *cough* a little too much.

Having never had a classic car policy before, I'm on limited mileage, and starting to get a little concerned about hitting the limited mileage threshold some point in the next couple of months .. Has anyone hit this limit? is it a question of obtaining an extension at cost? any experience with insurers? / policies? I couldn't see any wording on my policy on the subject..

Whoops my speedo cable has become detatched!!!

A cheap sat nav will give you a fairly accurate speedo

Ring them - Just ask what their terms & conditions are? - Or, do you have a policy document? Might tell you in there?

I'm with footman James on a classic policy, had to take my limited mileage off before, just rang them and had to pay a little extra

Commuting's on there. Made sure of that. Certainly cheers me up on a Monday morning, but the motorway journey a couple of times a week racks up..

Just ring them and ask. Better to be safe than sorry. I was getting near the limit on mine this year and I rang the insurers to find out what my options were. They told me how much it was to go to unlimited (was only about £10), but said as I was within a month of my renewal date they'd just put a note on the file to say I wanted unlimited next year and that if I went over before the renewal date it would be OK as I'd informed them.

I have always stuck by this. the extra mileage was done when my dad, brother, mom,wife used the car on their own insurance policy.

mine was limited to 5000, i thought just under 100 miles a week would be loads. soon realised that it wasnt that much and i had to extend it to 10K instead after about 4 months , cost me an extra £57, which made me wonder why they put it on in the first place

Surely it would still count, cause if you had an accident wouldn't it go through your insurance?

Hmm. When dad comes to re-new his classic insurance he states what the mileage is - but like you said, what happens if myself, or my mum was to drive them? Then what?
