My wife and I have a 1999 Rover Mini Cooper 1275 which my wife drives, is in superb condition and has only done 22,000 miles since we bought it new at Hall's of Chorley (now sadly gone).

This summer, retuning from holiday (towing a caravan with our Rover 75) we followed a superb mini towing a 'half-mini' that the driver had converted into a trailer. We stopped behind him at the motorway services and told him how superb his mini looked and about our own mini.

The enthusiast told us we should investigate 'agreed value' car insurance.

Our mini's insurance anniversary is approaching and having bought a copy of 'mini magazine' find there are 12 different insurers potentially offering 'agreed value'.

Please could you advise if any of your members would favour any particular insurance company offering 'agreed value'?

Many thanks for any possible help,

Regards, David Hardman

I use Adrian Flux for both of my Mini's both have an agreed value, had to fill out a form of restorations and modifications on each of them and take some photos, (drivers side, passengers side, front, rear, interior and engine bay) It costs £10 for the agreed value. Always found them the cheapest for my insurance. My mum and dad also have both their Mini's insured with Adrian Flux.

My son's mini is insured by Footman James who have accepted the valuation given by the British Mini Club.

Generally valuations are done by recognised specialist clubs and you need to check with the insurance company to see who's valuation they will accept. This means joining the appropriate club which will cost around £25 but could save you thousands if the worst were to happen.

I can only say I have found Footman James very competitive , but you only find out how any of these companies perform when you make a claim.

Pretty much all the "classic" policies will prvide the option for an agreed valuation, it's then just a matter of finding the broker who will provide you with the most appropriate policy for your needs..

On a 22k mileage ( one owner ? ) 1999 Mini, as long as it's in good shape body wise, you should be aiming for a 5k agreed value.

I have my minis insured with HIC

I'm hoping to get agreed value when it next comes to insuring my car, i didn't last time because i thought it'd raise the premium.

I thought that if at first your insuring a car with a book price of a couple of hundred quid if that (like an old classic mini) then next minute your insuring a car thats worth a good few grand. Doesn't this put the premium up, due the the company needing to pay out more if your car is written off/ stolen?

agreed valuation does not really affect your premuim, and I would say 90% of the time the risk they are taking on your vehicle is minimal compared to the 3rd party liability... which can be millions...

I went with Performance Direct who insured me with Chauncer, my car has an agreed value of 7000, its on a limited mileage policy with all mods declared and costs me 26 quid a month fully comp.
Had to take several pictures front, sides, engine bay and interior. and ensure all mods were listed.

I sent 6 pictures and a tenner to Adrian Flux, told them what I thought it was worth (£4.5k) and they agreed instantly, no quibbles.

I wish I had taken out an agreed policy! My car was similar to yours, I won't even tell you what pay out they offered to start with! But even the final payout amount was less than it was worth! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :D

Never had a problem with Adrian Flux, but then again not had to claim in the last 4 years whislt with them. Did the agreed valuation with the pictures and a £10 note. Got the value I wanted of £6500.

Thanks for the recommendations.
Adrian Flux get most recommendations - one or two negative comments but no reasons given? It sounds like they are easy to deal with.
I will watch out for any more comments but this forum site has been a revelation - thanks for your time
