Im researching the 12g940 head now, not starting work on the 202 it till I know for sure whats best. BMC, u got any tips for fitting the 12g940?I have a standard 1989 mini30 engine so i assume it is flat top pistons, how much should i sink the exhausts (do i also need to sink the inlet?) would take it to minisport probably to get it machined properly. Also, if i did go the 940 route, do all the water holes match up to the 998 block?

water holes all line up as do the oil galleries only problem is stopping the exhuast valve hitting the block / pistons
you can either sink the valves into the head or get the block pocketed
you then used a 1275 head gasket

i bought keith calver's mini CD today which apparently covers in detail how to fit a 940 to a 998, so it looks like i will follow the guide and fit the 940, got the 202 on ebay now, probably get my money back for it :goaway:
just sourcing a 940 now, there arent too many but will bide my time, not paying over the odds for one on ebay

sink the valves 40 thou iirc... i think a 940 head will need skimming too tho to get the correct CR

NO skimming - just sink the exhaust valves by 40 thou. Don't take it to the likes of Minisport - they will charge you a FORTUNE. Mine were done in 5 minutes - using a 45 degree countersink in a pillar drill.

i think 140 is what it costs to get it all done including blocked channels gasket and fitting and stuff .

if you feel confident do it with the pillar drill, cheaper.
