my first mini with t+t was £500 about 5 years ago. its was only a standard mayfair but it was a good base to start with. these days £500 will only get an unfinished project or MOT failure, so what sorta price will a cheap and cheerful one with t+t cost?? i hate trying to price things up on ebay as it seems people bump the price up as its a wider market than a forum, but since the for sale section here changed it doesnt seem as busy as it used to be.

cheers

I wouldn't look on piston heads if you want a cheap mini.... expensive one maybe....

You should be able to get a decent mini with long T&T and a good chance of passing it's next MOT for about 1k.... Less and you're looking at bodywork issues....

Don't buy a mini because of the mechanical parts, they can be replaced easily and cheaply, where as the body is not cheap to replace.

Got mine for £350, no mot, it needed, 1 shock, 1 indicator bulb, and some pedal rubbers to get it through.

No t or t, had a play with the carbs and its now on the road, theres a link to my photobucket which has a few pictures, on my profile

To answer your question, a cheap Mini is probably a very expensive Mini in the long run!

The guys above got lucky.. but I'd say you want to look at spending £1k on a nice bodyshell'd car, then a couple of hundred getting the rest of it spot on :(

I agree. Don't go looking for bargains. Instead go looking for sturdy rust free shell, preferably laminated. Oh and bullet proof. :) My car may have only cost me 300, but I'm looking at a fair whack of money to get the corrosion sorted. Who cares about under the bonnet when you can see the tarmac through the holes in your floor.

Although it all depends on what you're after. Cheaps ideal for a nifty run around or hobby. Moderately priced will give you something which you can rely on and not expect to crumble every time there's bad weather.

when i was looking for another mini i had a look at a few for around 1000, but they would have needed a few panels replacing, and then painting which would have ended up costing another 1000, bodyworks the expensive bit, especially if you cant do the majority of it, so just try and find a solid one (if there is such thing)

My Mini cost 1,800 and came with t&t. I bought it cause the bodywork seemed solid enough, I'll know for sure this Spring when I yank him all apart and strip him down to bare metal. But yeah, Guessworks is right....buy a Mini for the bodywork not so much about what lump it has in and other bits.
