you cant realy just bolt a turbo on a standard engine, you have to uprate most of the internals in the engine, buy a oil cooler, turbo modified carb, turbo oil pump etc etc the list goes on and on. the best thing to do is try and get a metro turbo engine complete, which you can chuck straight in the car.

Thats not the point. :cheese:

Its just pure grin factor

Think about telling the chav in his 1.6 Fiat Punto chavster that hes has just been left behind at the lights by a 1 litre Mini

The aim should be 100bhp per litre. Reliably achieveble with the big bore short stroke Cooper S970, either turbod or 16valved. but then you realy do need a big wallet and a very understanding bank manager :nugget:

From the two questions above, I suggest that you maybe need to do a bit more reading about turbocharging.

www.turbo-mini.co.uk

and

www.turbominis.co.uk

Wouldn't be a bad place to start.

:nugget: i remembered while i was at work today that there was 998's (and probably others) that had a low c/r, i think it was about 8.5/9:1 you could run this with some boost, and the guy in the mag had an intercooler so it could mabe see 5-6psi of boost

i supose he could have used a 'standard 1 litre' Although personaly i would have strengthened the bottom end :gasp: .

just looked in the mag the guy was running 0.75 bar of boost ~ 11psi, i would have thought it a bit high for a standard 1 litre but if it works it must be ok right?

if you dont mind doing a rebuild (which is DEFFO worth it for a highly-stressed engine like a turbo) Then you could always replace the standard 998 pistons with 1098 pistons, which are around 7mm shorter - which should give a silly-low CR for a nice raise of boost capability

12g295 head would be ideal as well, as they have massive chambers as standard, and nice flowing ports to aid power

To ask a silly question, is there any limit to how low you could get the compression ratio? I mean could you get the compression ratio down to something like 5:1 and run silly amounts of boost?

I guess you could get the CR down to 5:1 and run silly boost, but it'd be a bit pointless. The law of deminishing returns and all that.

With a CR of 7.5:1 you can easily run 20 PSI (maybe more).

Also a CR as low as 5:1 would make it a bugger to drive off boost.

Is this all on a standard bottom end?

Just using a different head to lower the compression?
