i broke a car for spares a few years ago. it was fitted with a new old stock 998 a plus engine setup. this covered around 700 miles from new.

the whole setup was new. the engine, the gearbox, the alternator, carb, everything. all new, not recons.

i have had it laid up gathering dust for a while, im not into mini 1000 engines so will never use it in any of my cars.

was wondering what i should advertise this, probably the lowest mileage mini 1000 unit left?

if its not worth a lot, id probably take it apart for spares, ie use the gearbox etc.

any thoughts? i could get pucs but im sure everyone knows what these look like. its in the original yellow paint, very clean, just a tad dusty

thanks

it would be a shame to break an engine like that for spares, but saying that i couldnt tell you how much it is worth, maybe a lot to the right person, but you gotta find that person.

In all truth, unless you have documented evidence, or can sell it with a warranty it's worth no more than a 70k miler. It's still a used engine.

i know what you are saying about proof. i cannot provide documented proof. however, i disagree that i can ask the same for a 70k engine. though i cannot provide proof, the engine in question looks as new beneath the dust. the parts are fresh and clean looking, and the engine is finished in the original factory yellow paint. it could not be confused with a higher mileage unit cleaned up. it looks the genuine artice. if i was looking top buy such an engine from someone, i would be happy with it. it looks as it should. as with buying all second hand parts there is a small risk involved, however the risk would be minimum looking at the external condition of this engine.

it basically looks like a new engine but slightly dusty!

the thing is you cannot go by looks alone.
you want to charge a premium price as you claim its only done 700miles or so.

without the evidence then the buyer will always assume worst case.

i would say £75-£100 tops.
