Did you check the intake manifold wasn't leaking?

Trying to run such an old car on my kind of wage working one day a week and trying to go to college and still have the occasional fun i dont have £70 a year to spend on something i may never end up using. Sorry but breakdown cover really isn't an option for me. Thanks for all the feedback though guys you've been brillaint. Im sure ill be back on here when i find out the problem. Just a quick question... how do you tell if your running a leaded or an unleaded head? Its a 1986 Austin Mayfair. Pretty sure its the standard head on it, looks very standard. This would just clear up if im looking at a burnt valve or something as simple as a mainfold leak.

Well if it's an 86 on the standard head, it's certainly not suitable for unleaded fuel ( well not without an additive )

If it does turn out to be a burnt out valve... maybe worth posting a picture of said item when it's sorted...

so if i attached it to the subframe it would end up damaging the front panel which ive only just had repaired

If you get an eye how/where would you fit it so it wont affect the front panel on tow?

Don't worry, the tow eye replaces the teardrop bolt, it doesn't touch any panel, its only held on the subframe

Not sure if you can see but there is a cut out hole on your front panel for this reason (well also so you can get to the teardrop bolt!) It wont touch any panel so hook up and your away.

for towing eyes, i would highly recommend MRA-minis. they do stainless ones of various sizes which are far beefier than the standard ones
