A wide range of diff ratios were fitted to minis with A+ engines.
They include a 3.2, 3.1, 2.9 and 2.7.
The later MPI ars with the 2.7 are fine for motorway cruising, but the diff is a bit too high for best acceleration.
My personal favourite on later cars is the 3.2 with 12" wheels.

It's not too high for around town and suits a modified engine where the power omes in a little higher up the rev range. It still cruises at motorway speeds without over-revving the engine and allows 4th gear to still be used rtather than having to change down to accelerate from, say, 45 mph. It also has the effect of appearing to 'close-up' the gear ratios a bit and reduces clutch wear from standing starts. A 3.2 still gives a 4th gear figure of around 18 mph/1000 rpm so 5000 rpm is c.90 mph. A good overall ratio methinks.

I used Guesswork's web site to answer the same question .They all vary, I now have 2 1275 engines, one 3.105, the other(metro) 3.44

I'm fairly sure that most people would not notice the difference between a 3.1 final drive and a 3.2.

As for what the engine has in, if its our of a metro then could be anything, but most likely a 3.4 or 3.6, if it's out of a mini then most likely a 3.1

If you have the engine number and you know the gearbox is original, then look it up on my site and it'll tell you.
