Hi Folks, previous owner of my 1991 Cooper has put a Canvas style roof over the normal metal one.Have been over it with a magnet from a radar(quite powerful, Dad was in RAF and must have borrowed it,it's only been 30 odd years ). Doesn't seem to hiding anything and is starting to fray and a bit missing, looks pants. Have had following advice:
a: Use a Hot Air gun
b: Slit the roof and pour in Thinners?
Has anyone removed a roof like this?
Is there a Link to disassembling the 3 pod Binnacle, have looked and only found destructions for 2 pod, as want to make my own Dash(thanks to Caerdydd mini Club for the template),
Thanks for your help,
G

I'd start with low heat, hairdryer or electric heat gun on a low-mid setting with a broad nozzle - see if it softens the adhesive allows it to peel away.

then step it up a gear to panel wipe rather than thinners - panel wipe does break most adhesive types down but isn't so aggressive on paint.

just don't use heat, and panel wipe / thinners at the same time, for the fairly obvious explosive and fire orientated reasons.

For the clocks binnacle there are 4 small self tapper type hex head bolts one either side and two on top.
They are something like an 8mm socket undo these then pull the clocks towards you and unplug the multi plug, speedo cable and rev counter wires. The clock binnacle will then be free.
Once the clocks are out you can remove the mounting cage undoing the 4 7/16" (I think) nuts under the bonnet on the bulkhead near the master cylinders.

Remove the shroud from the front of the clocks and screw them to the new dash. Make survyou set them at an angle facing up towards the driver not just flat or you may struggle to see them seated in the car.

I have a hot air gun if you need one to borrow.

over the years ive found the only way to remove a vinyl roof is to just pull it off, i have never found a solvent etc that will remove the glue so its on with the paint stripper after removing the vinyl.
