Knob in is hot, knob out is cold

If I drive around with my knob out it's cold and if it's in it gets hot.

Shocking.

On a serious note two of my minis had the same set up, heater valve on the drivers side but one was out for hot and one was in. I think what had happened is someone routed the cable round and conected it from the front rather than the back so the cable pushed to open and pulled to shut, it was knackered though so used to open it by hand at the engine side and leave it. I think the two others I've had are both out for hot.

I just remembered the heater tap on the cylinder head of a Mini owned by a family member was worn out and so I ordered a replacement from Moss. It was slightly different in design to the original and I can remember having to order the pin thing that held the cable separately (it was listed on another page of their parts catalogue too).

Anyway, even though it was mounted in the same place (on the cylinder head), it worked in reverse to the original and was out for hot and in for cold.

So perhaps your Mini had a newer type heater tap?

Mine just pumps out hot air weather you want it too or not, yet the windows all still steam up and then condensate inside the car, rotting it from the inside out. Fantastic.

Hey that's a bloody good addendum that. Now why didn't BMW think of doing the same?
