Have you tried turning it off and on again?

If you had a key cut from a rusty original, the new key could be incapable of opening the lock.

Break the cap off, buy a new one. It's not an expensive thing to replace.

try lubricating the locks with graphite powder (the right stuff, but 3in1 oil will do in an emergency).

If the door locks won't lock, then it could be the latches have disengaged. Removal of the door trim panels will be necessary to gain access to the inner door components.

This happened on my car, it's not difficult ro rectify, but you need small fingers .

If you are lucky, on the key slot of the cap may be a serial number stamped, usually four or five numbers. This is the key serial number. If you have this, you will be able to take the number to a decent locksmiths, and they should be able to cut you a new key from that.

If the number isn't there, unfortunatly your option is to break the thing off or try the original key gently and see if that works, and if it survives, get a replacement cut from that.
