I only understood 1/2 of that!!
What do you mean by "Shirt it"??
Did you do the work to the engine or did you buy it in good faith.
The only way to really verify what you have is to remove the head and measure the bore and stroke of the engine. Thats only part of finding the true value of the engine you have.
Next you need to find out how good the head is, measure the size of the valves.
To be able to get the full value for the engine you'll need to find out what cam is fitted and what work has been done to the crank.
Are there any markings on then engine to suggest who built it?

£500 for 120bhp is very cheap!!
Can't you get hold of the guy who sold it you?
Speaking personally I wouldn't buy anything like that without reciepts or a print out from a rolling road.
What carb is on it, what dizzy?

No one will pay good money without seeing the head off, to inspect the bores and the head - and probably the crank bearings too! The value is all in the fine detail - otherwise it's only worth £100 or so.........

I'll take a chance at £100 if it is complete

it being a 1430 is all good and well, but whats the head like, poring, valve size. gearbox, is it straight cut or standard, 4 pin diff, carb, etc etc its a lot more in depth than just the engine size. a 1430 will be 73.5mm bore with s rods
