Adam, I've got a roof rack just like that, looks a bit grubby. Did you paint it or buy it like that?

Edit - sorry for hijack.

They have application lists in the stores but if you can, I'd recommend spending a bit more on Thule brand bars - you can normally pick them up on eBay a bit cheaper. In my experience, the cheaper bars from Halfords and Paddy Hopkirk brand tend to sit REALLY close to the roof, especially when you put any weight on them, whereas the Thule ones sit a good inch or so above the roof,

I've had a set of Halfords roof bars since 1996 and we used to often use a Halfords roof box to carry all our camping gear. We also did have a habit of overfilling the roof box past it's recommended weight and yet we never had any problems.

I've still got them in the garage and one day they'll get used again.

I did have a Paddy Hopkirk roof rack and that was very weak and tended to bend.

Hi,

Ebay, I got a pair from ebay, locking thule bars which were very cheap. I think I paid about £6.00 and a friend collected them for me so no travelling costs.

Good luck.

Martin.

I got a set of the cheay paddy hopkirk bars from Minispares. I think they were only like 28quid inc VAT? I just picked up today a twin cycle carrier set to fit it, so hopefully I can have a pair of mountain bikes on the roof for some riding down cannock chase soon?

The budget set at halfords that clamp onto the gutter are all you need. They are only £35. Bargin. They are normally on the bottom shel and dont come in a box, they are just rapped in clear plastic with a red halfords budget sticker.

Its not the bars i am worried about, its the minis gutter! I think that would go before the bars did.
Its great for a bike rack etc but I would be worried about putting huge weights up there

mine came like that, i bought it like that and still needs a respray really.

its there to be used tho, as you can see with the logs on there, so scratches etc dont really bother me on it

youd be able to get it powdercoated fairly cheaply

If their of the same quality as my 1996 Halfords examples, then you'll have nothing to worry about.
