You're supposed to use ram pipes with a filter.

i though the ram pipes get their own foam and act as a airfilter?

do ram pipes actually work better than an airfilter or do you need both?

Both really. All the ram pipes do is let the air flow into the carb much smoother. It still needs filtering with a decent K&N or something.

Generally people use a ram pipe with a sock filter. Some people use nothing or a piece of gauze but this is not good for the engine at all.

Never use a ram pipe without any filter!
They're supposed to be used with sock fileters, with the hif44 a ram stack which goes inside the cone filter can be used, like this one:

(Dont expect power/torque increase by fitting it...)

Its fine for the engine providing its not used for rallying or anything and used in the correct conditions, filters get used on road cars because of all the crap there exposed to, race mini's use only the ram pipes.Generally people use a ram pipe with a sock filter. right, reason i ask is because i cant get any K&N filter to fit. its for my Minus where there is not much room for a filter as i currently have an HIF44 fitted.
dont intend to increse bhp.
those blue minispares ones are out of stock...
miniman_andy - sorry mate i play cod4 on the PC.
