I am putting the engine in my SPI back together (finally) and had this question.

I recently got into powder coating and will be doing all the brackets and such on the car. One I did was the front plate as they are always rusty messes. I recently installed my new SW5 cam and then test fitted the front plate, cam plate, and gasket. Is the cam supposed to right up against the cam plate? I can pull on the cam and it moves back a forth a bit. I dont have a dial gauge to give exacts. What is allowed for these? Should the front plate always be left bare and never coated/painted?

Thanks

you need the cam pulley on to get the proper measurment of cam end float.
