Hi there - I'm Magnus, from Leeds, just bought my first Mini. £300, poo brown, 1 litre, 1980, 46k miles, totally standard at present. It was my neighbours and he had it in his garage stood for about 2 years. Started OK, have sorted the brakes, seems OK so pretty chuffed with it.
One question - what do I put in the tank? Will they run on unleaded alright or do I have to fork out an unleaded head conversion?
Ta. I love my Mini!
Magnus.

Hi welcome to the forum. As the car has been run on Leaded petrol since 1980 it should have a thick lining/deposit of lead which will allow you to run on unleaded with no problems, however this should only be done for a short period. Buy the lead sulphate and continue to use unleaded, or get a used unleaded head for about £20. I have seen them going for free on Minifinity in the past!

Don't use LRP what ever you do, and avoid using unleaded only unless absolutely necessary, use unleaded with a fuel additive. (suggest Castrol Valve master) ..
As for how long a leaded engine will run on unleaded, this can be many years, and it can be less than a week too....

cheers, thanks for the pointers. Will order some valvemaster gunk, and a proper unleaded head in due course.
