I've been reading this and went onto footman james and it says I can't have a quote because i'm 19!! Is this right, or have people younger/the same age got a policy with them?

Just be careful with a classic policy as you wont build up a no claims bonus.

Try Peter James Insurance. I got a quote from them at Bingley Hall and it was £120 fully comp inc breakdown(its a mini). Footman James at the same show was £230 fully comp without breakdown and couldnt go lower.
Rang round this month and Peter James Insurance was still over £120 cheaper than anyone else for the same level of cover.
I must admit age, no claims and limited miles are on my side but you can get it cheaper than £5000
Basically anything higher than £2000, means they dont want to insure you.

i started off paying 1250 with footman james, was 18, but had loads of mods declared, 1330 engine upgrade, bucket seats, harnesses, uprated brakes, performance exhaust, alloy wheels, etc
just got my renewal through, from the same place, havent made any claims, and not had any accidents in the past five years (other than flipping a mini end over end twice into a field about 6 months ago, lol, and crashing into a post playing silly buggers on the ice, lol, i forgot about these..) lol, they want 850 to renew it.
i am limited 6000 miles, but for some reason the speedo stops working whenever i get near that milage
. but you dont build up any noclaim bonus with them, as its classic car policy.
usually youll ge a cheaper quote if you actually phone the companies, personally i dont bother with online quotes

Footman James will give you no claims you have to ask them for it.

I literally insured my mini today with footman james including all mods on a classic policy(second vehicle) came back at £124.00
happy days.See if adding a driver you know with no claims and a good driving record makes any odds.My first insurance on my first car (998cc standard mini) was £1200 and that was 12 years ago!! It hurt but itll get cheaper quickly, went down to about £700 the 2nd year.I am driving miss daisy thou

Im with Footman James too and have always been the best quote for me, but it does vary person to person.
Best thing to do is get hold of a copy of Mini Magazine or Mini World (or maybe both!) and ring all the specialist insurers that are listed in there. Im sure you'll be able to knock that price down a bit. Also try and go with an insurer who gives you an agreed value, that way if the worst was to happen, you'll get what your mini is actually worth back, rather than just getting the book price.
Insurance prices have shot up though lately, think its from all the people who crashed in the bad winter weather claiming!
