Hot Hatch? got to to be the Lotus Talbot Sunbeam, Old Skool + Rally Pedigree + RWD + Lotus = Winner
Though my brother had a 106 Rallye S2 with the 1.6 engine and that was a blast!

A chap up the road had the Lotus Talbot Sunbean in about 1992.Very nice Rare Car.It cost him loads and was always working on it.He used it for his daily driver. The market is full of well priced sporty Bargains. We have many younger drivers after one.Insurance is the big one to cover. The law love stopping them. The old MG Metro in good condition is good value.

its gotta be a 106 rallye, insured as a 1.3 8v. . . .but it really has a 1.6 16v
Hope you dont prang it!!
Not big or clever to boast about insurance fraud.
had a 106 GTi - 108 bhp at the wheels and the thing was awesome fun - best hot hatch in my opinion!!

Might be better to do an engine conversion?
Classic good looks but modern reliability?
16v Chevette or mk2 Escort?

Looking at all the ideas.Loving my old Hot-Hatches when younger. If i was to go back to one i would try the MK2 Golf VR6.Very cheap to buy and a reliable car with top reports.
I do and try to think of cars for the younger driver here to be fair.
I like cars that have a bit of a purpose in use.
Mates just bought a 2 seat S2000 fab car but no use daily.
