Having done 3 conversions myself & gone through the DVLA inspection, I can tell you that they are more concerned with the chassis remaining untouched. If it unbolts you can take it off, cutting into the chassis means an automatic IVA & a Q plate. The Mini has a monocoque chassis, so in theory if you fit a sunroof you have cut the chassis & it needs an IVA. I have argued big time with the DVLA over one of my conversions & the end result came back that I cut the roof which means I cut the chassis = IVA & Q plate. I argued with them about the points system & I believed that my car qualified under this system. They just came back with "you cut the chassis so you will have to go through the IVA & have a Q plate". So this begs the question on what you can & cant do, fibreglass wings, boot floor, inner wings, one piece bolt on front end? I think most heavily modified Minis would not pass a DVLA inspection if the inspector was in the wrong mood, the rules are down to interpretation.

Regards

Jerry

I have done a Vauxhall, Suzuki & an AWD Turbo Suzuki powered van, the best advice I can give you is to search the builds on 16vminiclub, you need to decide on which front end you want first. That will determine which subframe options you have.

Good luck with it

Jerry
