Cheers guys. I thought I'd also post up things that interest me car wise, so you have an idea how I think. Here's a great picture via Speedhunters.com

Bumping this up.

Massive (new) love for this look!

MK2 lights and a slightly-different-from-the-norm reversing lamp definitely!

Thanks Lucky. I actually forgot about this, well lets see what have I done since June:

Firstly got my MOT done and after going for the first test and bursting a brake pipe, getting towed home, replacing the brake pipe it passed!

Posted Image

I guess this is where a removable bonnet really came in handy, really can't recommend one enough!

Posted Image

Waited an hour for the AA man :D

Posted Image

Had to take off the light lenses just in case I got done for them!

Speaking of lenses I found some Mk2 rear light clusters at Minis by the Sea for £15

Posted Image

Posted Image

I tried them out and they fit nice, well I tried one, only thing is there was a bad earth somewhere as when I press the brakes (with the lights off) the front beams come on. I also still like the idea of a reverse light so once I get some motivation I'll probably try this:

Posted Image

Not the convertible, but more the fog light and reverse light under the rear bumper! Next year I'll probably also colour code the arches.

I also found this at Castle Combe:

Posted Image

Posted Image

(Its the one on the bottom right in the top picture!) An 11inch steering wheel for £10. My mate said I'd love it, then again he's 6ft 3 or something and huge so he has no problem turning the wheel. It's a bit difficult parking... but boy is it fun! I'll keep the old wheel as I may use it again one day.

Castle Combe also gave me a chance to play with my new camera Nikon d5000 (wooooohoooo) and the glide track I made for video shots:

Posted Image

Click the link below to see it in action alongside some other footage on the day:

Vimeo Video

Next year I hope to go to most of the shows and make video's like the one above. So if you see me with a weird contraption, pose and I'll stick you in the video!

Last week I also finally fitted a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Just need to stick a light in the back for night cruising:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Lastly I just got this last week but its a super duper lowering bracket. I have to take out the old one first but hopefully this should solve all those wiggly problems!

Posted Image

I think that's all I've done or collected for now. It's kinda cold now so the I'll just be doing little jobs here and there. Hopefully I'll remember to update this when I do.

EDIT = Oh and made it onto the Speedhunters site: Speedhunters

if your head lights flash when you press the brake, it means you got a wrong bulb in the brake light bulb holder, you need the double element type, and youll prob find its got a single element bulb in, i had the same problem and tracked it down to this! lovely looking car though mate!

Love this car and thread.

My original plan was just to go with a retro Mk 1/2 look, now i've changed my mind. I'm going for a similar look to yours Alternativeretrorat style?
Awesome!

I thought it's about time I put together a little project thread as I'm always doing little things here and there and also getting stuck on little things. So the short story goes that BiMU used to be called Grover and was previously owned by a few people on the this forum. MattPink was the man that turned it from a Mini City to the Sportspack looky-likey around 5 years ago now.

Here is how BiMU looked before mattpink changed a few things:

Posted Image

BiMU was then turned into this beautiful thannngggg:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

So basically it was owned by someone else on the forum for around a year and I spotted it on ebay. It didn't sell and I basically loved the colour, it was either a Beetle or a Mini and I went with the Mini thinking that I would benefit more from a car that had a heater (which I hardly use!) My dad actually traveled all the way up to Middlesborough to view the Mini and then he returned a couple of weeks later to pick it up, at the time I didn't go with him as I had some crazy girlfriend from Canada staying over (long story!) The Mini which I then named BiMU (because of the number plate) became in-separable (wasn't the cause of ex's and I's break-up) and I probably learned the most about the Mini woes and Mini 'yays' within the first year of motoring, which included:

- Breaking down upon entering a massive round-about and having to push it 3/4 around it for my exit, while it was pooring with rain and my hazards not working
- Gearbox giving way 10 miles from home (luckily AA pick-up is free within a 10 mile radius)
- Breaking down in random places
- Fixing one thing and creating another problem
- The massive hole in my pocket from purchasing new parts

Posted Image

So anyhoo... after a year of non-modifying and going to several shows I set out on making it my Mini and adding things which I think represent myself and now BiMU. Pretty much the easiest thing I thought of doing was cutting out some vinyl shaped as paint splats over parts of BiMU which included over the Cooper stickers as I felt that he wasn't a real Cooper more of a City Cooper:

Posted Image

Posted Image

I also went with white stone guards and a pink badge!

Posted Image

After a 2 years I decided that I really didn't like the Sportspack wheels and felt that 10's were the way to go. At the time also didn't have a lot of money (still don't) and found a set of Cooper Replica's that fit over the 8.4 discs (thanks Hayley!) I also took off the Cooper stickers and vinyl.

Posted Image

Now I felt I was getting somewhere and decided on the retro look so off I went finding bits that would make it look older like some European lens covers:

Posted Image

I also craved a roof rack as I really like the Beetle California look, so I found one on ebay and set about putting random things on it for shows:

Posted Image

I didn't like the rack and gave it to a friend. I found another one on ebay and found some other stuff to put on it:

Ah and here's a picture at L2B last year with my local wickedy wicked club The Middlesex Mini Club!

To be continued...
