Hi All

Basically, I've just bought a Mini saloon that I want some noise in. It has some kenwood 6 or 6.5" speakers (standard size in later cars) in the rear parcel shelf, and I also have an underseat board cut for 6x9's. I'd like some bass, mids and, well general all round good sound. The speakers in the parcel shelf just about make noise loud enough to hear before they distort, and the current 6x9's are just as bad.

Now, do I use both round and 6x9's? Or just 6x9's? I don't really want to use a sub or anything, just want half decent quality sound.

I currently have wires for just 2 speakers, but I guess it won't be too hard to wire in a couple more. The headunit is a half decent sony one.

Maxiumum of about £100-£120

Any help appreciated >_<

Oh, and do I need to run an amp?

Cheers
Dan

Hi, my current setup in my car is:
jvc headunit with 4X50 watt internal amplifier
300 watt infinity 6X9's under the rear seat in a custom consoles speaker board
and in the front i have mounted two 30 watt i think about 8cm speakers in plastic pods
I have biased the fade a little more towards the rear 6X9's because obviously they are more powerful and have much more base than the fronts.
The sound is perfect, can turn it up loud with no distortion only when it becomes stupidly stupidly loud, there is a very decent amount of base from the rears and the fronts give that mid range, vocal enhancement, its great.
Unless you are wanting to run massive amount of bass or wanting it supidly loud (i am 18 by the way into my music so my idea of stupidly loud is too loud) in which case you would go for either a subwoofer if you are wanting mass amounts of bass or for good mixture of base and mid range get some decent 6x9's and amp them
just my input, gazz

Ooo, I do have a pair of 10cm Alpine Type E 25W RMS 2-way speakers that I could install in the front somehwere, and 6x9's in the rear underseat?

Right, just tested my little 10cm speakers and they sound pretty dam good at the upper end. Now, do I go for some 6x9's in the rear, or something more bass derived? Do I need an amp on these or not?
Cheers
Dan

6x9@s will probably give you the biggest bang for a mid range speaker, without going into subs.

Wether you need an am or not depends on the power rating of the 6x9's and the output of your headunit.

a small 50watt x 50watt amp on those 6x9 and u will get a much clearer sound better bass and you can buy the amps really damn cheap on fleabay... put your 10cm on the HU turning off the bass on them and it'll sound just great... dont that in an old mk3 golf... its a great little "starter" sytem and will not cost u an arm and a leg..

That depends on what head unit your running. The amp you find in a Top end Pioneer headunit is of far better quality than a £50 'Fusion' amp from ebay.

I just so happen to have one of those 'Top End Pioneer Units' in the garage ready to go in whichever car I decide to have as my daily...
I'll go have a look which one it is, I do know it was quite expensive!

OH NO!!!

i was never suggesting a erm... "not so good amp", i ment a decent branded amp.
the HU amps will never provide a decent wide band response... but yes the alpines are pretty damn good, just dont over drive it huh? :mrcool:

Ok, imagine I'm a 5 year old and you're trying to explain to him how to get some good tunage coming from his Daddies precious car...

Go! :mrcool:

Honestly, I have no idea whatsoever when it comes to sound systems. Amp or no amp. The only thing I do kind of get is the smaller speakers do mids & upwards, and normally larger speakers do bass. And 6x9's combine the both? Maybe...? :dontgetit:

one of the reasons i suggested the outboard amp, that way u can run the 6x9s of that and the little 10cm jobs off the HU and turn the bass rite down on them without affecting the bass response of the 6x9s?

that make sense to you?

no probs... i like to help... ive built a lot of "cheap" systems and learned to make best of what im given.

100-120 squid budget is good to start off with if u already have the Hu and 6x9's and the 10cm.. things...
