"Dubba's used the pressure from the spare tyre to pressurise the washer bottle, a bit like having a Supersoaker for a screen wash. Minis had a hand pump."

Wow you learn something new everyday! What a silly idea.

No worse than frantically jabbing at button with your thumb while peering through a salt splattered screen. A really silly idea would be blowing exhaust fumes in through a vent under the back seat under the pretence of providinng heating.

I love both minis and air cooled vw, and there does indeed seem to be a nice respect between the two groups. It was a couple of german guys in bays who stopped when my ball joint snapped

The mini has always struck me as a better every day car of the two though. I couldn't even justify why, it just seems it.

Both are comparably cool :dontgetit:

Would you trust a car which is designed to float ?

And the pedals on beetles come out of the floor, now that's just wrong !

Minis Vs Beetles is a nice way of putting it.Each to there own.Tell your mate to check well under the VW for bad welding jobs and Rot and the front end.I always went for Minis instead.Have had a VW Golf MK1 GTI and a Rare SRocco Zebra in the past they were good so im not anti VW.They do have some very nice Forums and Clubs.Smoky Joe :D

I have a few friends who are major VW enthusiasts. Two of them are rebuilding theirs, from helping them out, I have found them very easy to work on. The wings bolt on!!

I attended a VW Show on Sunday at Stamford (SP?) hall with them (not my first VW show). The customisation options, and styles offer far more personalisation. I my opinion, VW's are great for cruising or drag racing. But you wont get one that drives like a mini.

My partner is looking to buy a 67 Beetle, after working on them and with the following they have. I can say honestly say, I'm not surprised.

I have a few mates who are mad on them. They are a good bunch. One of the older ones has a 40g rare camper.Up to them and there hobby tastes. When young my dad had a Bedford Camper not as good as a VW.If your mate buys one you can enjoy both cars.My joke is the pedals are like a boat. :D

mate of mine has a 67' and doing a full rebuild. he is going a lot quicker than me so they could be easier to work on i suppose. but surely theyve got 2 of a lot of engine components (cam shafts, rocker gear, heads etc..) so more to go wrong?

things to check on a beatle r the heater channels as they are not easy to replace, the top of the suspention mounts as these are prow to rusting as its the floor, my old 1303 was like the flintstones car towards the end. wings can be replaced in a matter of minutes and earlier flat screen models hold there value better than later 1303 models although the disc brakes on the 1303 are a lot better.
