Under the handbrake lever gaiter, there is an adjuster, I think you'll need a 10mm spanner. to be honest, I can't remember that well!

yup 10mm spanner or a long socket if you can get in.

Slacken it right off, adjust the shoes, press pedal to centre them afew times and then adjust handbrake up.

Worked on our fiesta, the blob of weld is a cheap fix if you dont have new automatic adjusters.

Hope you have fixed them.I had no back brakes on one of my old cars used the gear box to stop fast.
Are advice will fix it in the end.Keep working on it.
If a cylinder has gone you will see wet stains and fluid loss in chamber.
while at it change all the brake pipes=joking. :o
Dragsters use a shoot to help stopping like old draws Size 20 plus on a Tow bar.

Slacken handbrake cable adjusment right off
Put shoes to minimum adjustment on the ratchet and pawl
Put drums on
Get mate to press pedal (put your head near the back of the car, you should hear the adjuster clicking)
Adjust handbrake cable back up
Try car

Don't do this, it won't work (20 years of motor trade workshop experience tells me this) and you'll be back to a rubbish pedal again.

Yes, you could have a ridge on your drums. If that's the case, buy new drums, they're cheap. The reason there's a ridge is that the drum is worn. It ain't worth the hassle of grinding the lip off.

Do this then manually overide the adjusters as i mentioned before, or let the shoes wear in now if the lip is only small.
