Hi
wander if any 1 can help. I've got a 1981 mini HL running bog standard 998 with a mini sport stage1 kit on it. I fitted stage 1 kit and had problem where it was running out of fuel at 60 mph! I have to turn mixture up so rich it struggles to idle and at idle it starts to flood but will run over 60 mph but still lean. I look at a post on minifinity which said it was the wronge carb needle and recommended an AAA needle or AAU needle. I brought both these needles from himley. I tried both needles and are too rich at top end. E.g flooding. The needle I got with stage 1 was an AAV.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what needle would be best?

IMO a rolling road is a real must after fitting a stage 1 kit , it will ensure your fueling and overall set up are spot on , something you cant always get with a colourtune or similar

AAA or AAM should suit your set up I would of thought. What carb is it on these? Its been a while

I dont know how many mini specialists there are in Leicester but I always used Jonspeed in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Always seemed quite happy to give advise over the phone. Number is on the website here http://www.jonspeedracing.co.uk/

Hi,

The AAM is slightly richer than the AAA. I have been having some problems with the fueling on my 1981 998. I have just bought a AAU. Waiting for delivery. Will let you know how it gets on.

Good bit of kit to look at.....

http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/

If you click on your desired carb (HS4 in this case) it will give you a list of needles which you can compare. Might save you a bit of cash on the rr.

This is a direct link form sucarbs.com so its legit.
