ive got a standard 998 and tow motorbikes on the back of mine no trouble. About the same weight aswell. just be careful if thats the weight unloaded because the max for a mini saloon on 410kg and when you start loading the trailer with water and other gear itll go up. but they tow fine. i dont even notice 1 bike on the back 2 or 3 i notice but its not significant

998 stage 1 will pull no problem, used mine tow a trailer down to Cornwall last year, sat at motorway speeds for hours on end. No worries. Even the big hills on A30 didn't phase it

750kg is legal limit, but your car will have a specified towing limit set by the manufactorer in the case of a mini I think its 404kg

This is interesting

http://www.ntta.co.u...ion_plates.aspx

Now from that website it states this, which may just be a safe guideline not a legal requirement.

Type 01: unbraked trailers - max. 750kg gross trailer weight or half the towing vehicle's kerb weight - whichever is less. By that guideline you would only be towing 319kg

Weights
Kerb weight:
Saloon (rubber cone suspension):
Manual transmission . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 638 kg
Automatic transmission . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 658 kg
Saloon (Hydrolastic suspension):
Manual transmission . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 679.5 kg
Automatic transmission . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 699.3 kg
Estate . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 686.7 kg
Van . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 621.5 kg
Pick-up . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 622.4 kg
Maximum towing weights:
Saloon . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 404 kg
Estate, Van and Pick-up . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 303 kg
Maximum towing hitch load . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 45 kg
Maximum roof rack load . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 40 kg

the rule for legal purposes is the trailer loaded has to weigh less than half the car unloaded or 750kg whichever is less got that from dvla when i used to tow alot (not with a mini) this is after the license changes in 1997 i beleive but havent looked it up in a long time and dont know about before that and also dont know what is safe to tow with the car

In that case 319kg seems to be the legal max limit you should be towing.

Been covered several times although the mini can and will tow many small trailers fine its illigal unless the trailers braked, hense the 750kg or half the kerbweight guidlines above dont apply, the official rover towing limits say 404kg for braked trailer only no listing for unbraked therefore you are taking a chance with an unbraked trailer

That said the chances of ever being stopped and this brought to light ar slim at best
