The switch only seems to switch on the side and rear lights. When dipped is required then the power to the headlights goes through the stalk.

it sounds like you are saying that your light switch (on the switch panel) only has off and on. is this correct?

could you put up a step by step of what you get when you go through the lights

like switch position 1: off
switch position 2: headlights (or dipped)
switch position 2 with stalk pushed back: full beam

that should be what you get. what do you get?

Right I do not have a battery connected and am tracing wires to work out the circuits.

I have found that, off still only gives power to the flash through the horn supply.

Light switch on side lights, thats all you get but still flash from horn power wiring.

Main switch setting, dipped automatically, but the stalk pushed gives main beam and flash as usual.

It's just strange how the power feeds through the mini wiring loom.

Head lights are one example. I expected the switch to run the dipped and side lights, but the switch really only does the side lights and when in dipped position, the power to the headlight dipped beam is directed to the stalk. When there it runs the diped, (stalk in middle), main, (pushed forward), and flash pulled forward !

Think I have got it, haven't I ??

Everyone seems to be on the ball.

Brown wire from the solenoid to the light switch.

It connects to the red wire on the first position, which supplies the side, tail & dash illum via the fuse box.

Second position also connects the blue wire, which supplies the column switch. Centre, dip beam, position connects to blue/red. Forward, high beam, connects blue/white. When you pull to flash the headlights you connect blue/white to purple; that's a permanent live that also supplies the horn.

You could unplug the connector for the column stalk and bridge the terminals, as above to confirm if the stalk is duff. They sometimes suffer broken wires that can be soldered back on.

it may save a lot of time if you get yourself a haynes manual and find the relavent wiring diagram.

i dont mind helping out with issues as most of us on here wont, but it may save you waiting for an answer all the time
