"If it sounds to good to be true" then it normally is  but always check out other companies to doesnt hurt and you've got nothing to loose.

Just make sure you know what you are using it for everyday or track or all rounder and you can live with it. I know mates that have turbo'd other cars and now are going nuts because they cant stand the sound of the dump valve.

And the reason why Simon will sometimes take an age to get something done for is because of 2 reasons:

1) There's only something like 5 people employed there (keeps overhead costs down, hence low prices on his stuff - haven't you ever noticed that he's only ever had one advert in minimag? Due to the price of advertising!)

2) He gets the majority of his business for racers - so if it's at the start of a season, dont expect to get ANYTHING done quickly, since he's possibly working on about 4 race heads (about £2k each) at any point in time

I've dealt with him before, and he GAVE me a 1098 crank for nothing! (mainly due to the lack of decent pistons, so they're junk to him) And he's also gauranteed to be getting my cash when I need the bearings/etc for my engine

To be honest, he doesn't need much advertisement, TMF does it all for him!

I reckon you can't beat peoples opinions and word of mouth advertising.

The general consensus seems to be that he IS very good at what he does, however, don't expect short timescales for everything!

As a wise man once said, you can't rush perfection!

I'm sure you can buy 74mm pistons, Fiesta X flow pistons are 73.96mm and the rings are still available too... ( I know, I bought some recently ) and even if they are not, it's not like fiest 1.1 xflow engines are uncommon.

PS, if anyone want to make me an offer for a set of 4x74mm pistons on rods with new rings please do :cheese:

so should i go for the 1380 or something else. i'm gonna go to morspeed for whatever i get mainly thanks to the praise he's got here but also last time i went to minisport it took 3 hours to change a cat pipe.

i want around 110bhp and a decent torque figure. its got to be reliable as its a daily driver.

I don' t need the pistons just the rings and the ford rings are to big :nugget:

I found that Suzuki Swift 1.0 pistons are also 74mm and the torsional compression ring is 1.2mm, though the the napier compression ring is 1.5mm and the scraper ring is 2.8mm where the Omegas are 1.17, 1.17, 3.9 respectively. So the Torsional rings are the ones I'm after, but would mean buying a complete set of rings with the others being useless  Id rather buy a complete set of rings and be able to fit the lot

Does no one sell individual Rings any more  like they also used to sell individual spark plugs

I've only heard bad things about the MiniSport kits, like people building them, then over time having to replace most items that came in the kit. And I agree with Minimole, MiniSport power figures have been known to be a little optomistic.

lol,

heard lots of people dissing mini sport engines on this forum,

my clubby supposedely has a mini sport block 1398cc,vmax c/head 45 weber,sc/cr 10"alloys
full race spec ,too much to list..

although this clubby ive owned for past year was featured in mini magazine in2001
i cant say for deffo it actually is a complete mini sport block or
who built the engine, it looks to have had most of the race tune mods after it was featured in mini mag for its rebuild,

but for the record the guy i bought it from said it was a mini sport block
and ive had no probs whatsoever from it, apart from havin to top oil up regularly,
and it delivers great torque,

i have the rolling road readout for 120hp at flywheel and 103hp at wheels,
excellent accelleration, and its proven reliable for the year ive owned it minidev...

i should point out though i use it as a 2nd car as it would be too high maintenance
and too rough a ride on town cruisin on daily use,
suspect its probably higher spec components than the 1400 mini sport are
advertising in their catalogue from the power output,
i dont know the inracates of valves in/outs pistons ect on it
