Hi,
looking for some advice here...probably a dumb one though.

Does daily driving in the rain ruin a mini? I'm mainly referring to conditions like now, not in the winter time when there is salt on the roads.

Thanks

NO NO NO thats just not correct. all cars of this era had less rust proofing than modern cars and thi mini is no exception. but to sugest that its gonna rust as soon as it gets wet is just wrong!!!
I live in inverness north of scotland and have used my mini every day for the past 4 months in rain snow hail and sun. its still not rusty because i clean it a lot.

Or maybe this is some form of joke by bmcecosse. in which case Ha bloody Ha......

thanks for that....it's the scottish weather i was referring to as well!!!!
my machine gets cleaned as much as possible (even if it isn't raining), so i'm hoping that's helping.

it'll be fine its a bloodly car (agression not aimed at the guy who made the thread just the daft comments)
mines out in rain, sleet, snow, sun any weather as its meant to be.

no point keeping it for sunny days as as you can see we rarely have them, we never really get a dry summer, check how much moss is in your lawn.

and lets face it when all the oil runs out or gets banned and you cant drive anything not electric you'll have wished you'd driven it more

Driving in the rain is fine just make sure that at least once or twice a week you get the hose out or a pressure washer with variable pressure (you dont want the pressure too high minis are fragile cars) and make sure you wash the body and just rinse the underside and all in the wheel arches, making sure you dont use a high pressure setting is especially important if it's undersealed as it will just wash it off. In saying that why not undersel it whilst were still in summer.

Rinsing the underside and arches is especcially important in winter with the salt on the road but probably wont be much of a problem in summer so you could probably afford to do that once a month.

And dont worry if you get it wet IT WONT RUST ANY MORE THAN IF IT WERE DRIVEN IN THE DRY

There ya go fixed >_<

Best to enjoy driving it, then you'll be better motivated to fix the rust - 'n try not to put 'em to bed while they're still wet.

Engine-wise, I'd suggest get a weather shield or something to protect your electrics (especially the dizzy)!

Been driving in heavy rain for a few days here (monsoon season, tropical country, what can you do... >_< ) and in the heavy rain, when driving at highway speed, the engine sometimes hesitates a bit. No doubt because of the amount of water invading the dizzy.

Rain won't really affect it that much, SALT how ever will start eating into the body and mud holds moisture.
+1 on the weather shield.
