yea fair point, its up to you really. probably the best thing is to go for a combination one, because you can always convert it.
have a look on the net, and shop about before you buy, clarke and Sip are quite good makes but are still within budget.
lol i wish i had somewhere indoors when i started out lol, just about finished mine and now i gotta garage lol

i bought a little wolfe mig welder, does gas and gasless welding, was about £200 i think? i tried using the little bottles of gas you buy from halfords, but got fed up with spending a tenner ever 10 minutes (i was still teaching myself to do it at this point, so i was basically just wasting the gas) never had any problems with the flux cored wire

If you want to go gas then try B.O.C and go for the small Argoshield gas bottles. Its contract based and very flexible. You take out a years contract and either pay monthly or all up front. If you finish with the bottle and have complete months of the contract left then if you have paid all up front they will refund you for the complete months remaining or if you pay monthly then you can cancel the contract with no penalties.

I bought the larger bottle and a new regulator (different types for different gases) and it came to approx £180 (that also included a 5kg reel of 0.6mm mig wire.) Expensive i hear you say but i am doing a lot of welding so its fine for my requirements, as i said previously they do smaller sizes that are a lot cheaper along with the refills.

Try the website or give them a call, they were very helpful.
