just finishing off my mini, before painting.

just had a thought tho, i love the twin tanks look. but its very expensive for a right hand tank.
has anyone ever tryed making a pipe from the right side filler cap to the lefty tank so that it can still be used to fill up.
is there a kit for this?
i know theres cheap stick on ones, but im not really up for that.

cheers nick

Ive seen someone with a alu tank in the middle of the boot, with 2 pipes feeding it.

If you can weld well, then its easily doable with a bit of planning.

I've never seen it done before and I'm guessing it because the pipe coming from the RH filler would need to run down at an angle across the boot lid opening for it to fill properly. If you really want to twin tank look but can't afford the extra tank them your probably best off just fitting a dummy filler neck.

yea, what i was thinking is running the pipe from the right filler cap down a bit, then over to the back of the boot (just behind the rear seats) at a slight angle for a run and into the left tank. i think it could work with alot of planning. just wondered if theres a kit that does it.

I have been thinking of doing the dummy right hand filler cap too. But why would you want it to be able to fill the tank on the left hand side? No real point in doing this I think.

just think it would be more practical, plus dont really like the idea of just sticking a cap on lol.
i like the twin look, an i want it to work, but dont want to pay £400 ish for a tank, and then have to run pumps pipes and elecys lol

its not that simple as the standard left hand tank has a cut out for the suspension turret and this needs to be taken out as well on the new tank so it will have to be cut and welded which if not one correctly will be dangerous

i have tried to make a tank but i wasnt happy with the result and i am thinking of buying a right hand tank instead of trying to make one

I cant believe no one has come up with a cheaper after market RH tank yet instead of the £350 steel original one. Surely it cant be that hard to fabricate one?

there is a company in Australia that makes them out of composite that are cheaper but then add on the postage from there and they are only a bit cheaper than the steel ones

but i agree there should be someone that makes them cheaper

I Know, it doesn't even need to be the same shape as the original it just needs to fit in the same gap and have the same neck position.

That's got to be quote of the day.

In my opinion £350 is bloody good for something with as many curves and angle changes as a RH tank it. I'd love to see someone mass produce a tank of the same quality for less than the Mini Spares one.

i think you should be careful when welding petrol tanks, unless your using a new one, and your welding is good. The gases in a used tank will cause an explosion when you weld! its the gases that are dangerous, even more so than petrol.

I have seen it done before a few times... it can be done...

If the op is suggesting welding another neck on a left hand tank, then i guess he knows about this....
